The country produces about 70 million tonnes of iron ore annually, with a focus on high-grade material used for green steel production.

Major active iron mines in Canada include:

1 Bloom Lake Mine: Located in Quebec near Fermont, operated by Champion Iron Limited.

2 Mont Wright Mine: Canada's largest open-pit iron ore operation, located in northern Quebec and operated by ArcelorMittal. It also processes raw ore from the nearby Fire Lake Mine.

3 Carol Lake Mine & Scully Mine: Both situated in the Labrador West region of Newfoundland and Labrador. Carol Lake is managed by the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), a joint venture largely owned by Rio Tinto.

4 Mary River Mine: Located on Baffin Island in Nunavut, it is one of the northernmost mines in the world and is operated by Baffinland Iron Mines
