1 Human Resource
4 Marketing
1 Psychotherapist
2 Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
3 School or Educational Psychologist
4 Industrial-Organizational (I/O) Psychologist
A psychology graduate can pursue diverse careers depending on their level of education. In Toronto, a Bachelor's or Master's degree sets you up for roles in
1 Human Resources (Talent Acquisition, Corporate Training),
2 Social Services (Case Worker, Youth Counselor), and
3 Market Research.
With further specialized graduate training, you can become a registered Psychotherapist,
Clinical Psychologist, or
Industrial-Organizational (I/O) Psychologist.
Depending on your specific degree and career interests,
you can explore several primary paths:
1 Directly After Graduation (Bachelor's or Master's in Psychology)These roles leverage your critical thinking, understanding of human behavior, and data analysis skills without necessarily requiring a clinical license:
Human Resources Specialist or Recruiter: Manage employee relations, handle onboarding, and assess candidate suitability using behavioral evaluations.
Social Services Caseworker or Support Worker: Work directly with community organizations, group homes, or shelters to assist vulnerable individuals.
Market Research Analyst: Use your understanding of consumer psychology and statistical analysis to study buying trends and optimize product marketing.
Research Assistant: Support academic labs or healthcare institutions by collecting data, running experiments, and writing academic papers.
2 Requiring Specialized Graduate Training or LicensureTo provide therapy, conduct psychological assessments, or work in specialized applied fields, you will need to continue your education:
Psychotherapist: Many graduates pursue a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology or a Master of Social Work (MSW) to become licensed to provide counseling and therapy.
Clinical or Counselling Psychologist: Typically requires a Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to diagnose and treat severe mental or behavioral disorders.
School or Educational Psychologist: Requires specialized postgraduate training to support students' mental health, learning, and academic development within the education system.
Industrial-Organizational (I/O) Psychologist: Requires a Master’s or Ph.D. to apply psychological principles to the workplace, specializing in employee productivity, talent management, and organizational health. To help narrow down the best path for you,
